Portrait of a lady Alternate Title: Vittoria Colonna Near Bronzino, Agnolo, 1503-1572, Italy 2nd half of 16th century Found online at HOLLIS number: olvwork557680
It's a little early for me, but every detail I look at only makes me like it more!
I love that. It reminds me loads of this one, that I recently fell in love with http://www.thecityreview.com/metital24.jpg I am so very tempted to bag my 1570/90 dress and go to this style. Only think stopping me is the fabrics I've got aren't dark enough for the contrast. May do it anyway.
Wow! Your dress is fab! I can see why the contrast, use of stripes and strong V of the lines of the bodice opening would remind you of this one, but your dress has so many wonderful details I don't remember seeing before!
The pleated peplum, the lower bodice which appears that it may be a loosely fitted over piece (I hesitate to call the combination of theese two parts a waist cincher but the clearly have some relationship to one in form, if not function), the very slightly ruffled wings on the shoulders, the front opening...it's all so intriguing!
And then, of course, the stripes!
(I kinda like them, you know.)
Maybe you could dye your fabrics to increase the contrast? At the very least you could make it as another dress project 'cause, yeah, the world needs more of that dress too.
I think I've decided that I'm going to make it this winter along with the camicia with the black points I've been babbling about. I saw the dress on Anea's site in black and white in her Venice gallery and went looking for it in color. It is a totally different dress in color http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/operafantomet/renaissanceportraits/venezia1/cariani1520sallegory.jpg
I agree that the dress seems to have an over piece, especially in relationship to the other 2 dresses in the painting.
I'm going to buy fabrics for it special and do it then, it certainly deserves in.
